Growing public health concerns over the poor health-related quality of life for tick-borne disease patients caught our attention. We postulated that the reason for poor health among tick-borne disease patients is due to ongoing ineffective tools that only help diagnose Lyme disease. Thus, we profiled thousands of tick-borne disease patient samples against numerous bacteria, viruses, and parasites linked to the diseases. Our pioneering study findings debunked a common public health misconception that tick-borne diseases are limited to just Lyme disease (Garg et al. 2018). As a result, we created TICKPLEX that will help decrease the rate of misdiagnosed or undiagnosed cases and increase the health-related quality of life for tick-borne disease patients. The research and commercial viability analysis for our products were funded by the Schwartz Foundation (philanthropist foundation, U.S.A) and TEKES (Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation, Finland).
